Asher's Birthday

It began with an early morning trip to the coast, Pacific City to be precise. The family tradition is to take the one year old, on their first birthday, to the water so they can be a close as possible to their birth mother who most likely is grieving that her child is not with her. Amy announced the trip earlier in the week and we discussed the meaning. Three years ago (in July) we made the same sojourn for Truman.

It was a beautiful day as we crossed the Costal Mountains. The sun was brilliant, the wind soft out of the east and the temps were in the upper fifties. We did the sand thing with the kids, took pictures and talked about tides with Tru just long enough to watch the incoming flatten his sand castle.

After about an hour we went to the Pellican...our favorite restaurant in PC....for some clam chowder. This too has become a tradition. There are several places on the Oregon coast that specialize in this delightful and highly fattening soup, so it depends upon which city we are in as to where we go. But when in PC we go to the Pellican. This is the spot we vacationed a year and a half ago when Jeff met us there, too. We love PC with its signature Hay Stack rock out about a half mile of shore.

The drive back was uneventful and since we took two cars, Tru rode with us and kept us entertained with his chatter for the first half hour. Last forty five minutes he was sound asleep. The salt air does that to you.

We did some channel surfing trying to get scores of games, ahem, and ended up with the Penn State - Michigan State game on the NCAA webpage going through the agonizingly slow play by play for the last half of the fourth quarter. Oh well, they won.

We are waiting for the pizza delivery as I write which will closely followed by the Hamptons (Brendon's sister's family) and their three kids (one of which is Korean) and NaNee...Bren's mother.

But, ah, I hear the pizza guy. Type at you later.
