The second stage of Asher's birthday came this evening. Several families from North Valley Friends came here for a Korean meal. Amy served bulgogi, rice, seaweed, noodles, various kim-chee (both hot and mild) and sesame cookies which were glued together with various types of sweetners. I think most liked it...especailly the bulgogi (beef) which was like Philly steak that was cooked in a wak with Korean flavors rather than corn oil or butter.
We had a great time. Why not? Six kids all about the same age and laughing adults...they were fun to spend a meal time with. Asher was dressed in his traditional gown. Tru did not want to show his gown off because it has pink pants. Asher stole the show...he liked modeling especially when the hat went on. It will fit him better next year, so he looked like Sweet Pea as he crawled on the floor.
Speaking of NVF:
The service this morning was pretty much do it yourself. There was music, of course, but there never was a scripture lesson and prayer time was fairly long with lots going on in the community of Friends. When the preaching time came the speaker said simply pray about God's undconditional love and how it has played out in your life. If you feel moved to speak about it, then do so. And that is what happened. About six people spoke, which took about fifteen minutes and then the pastor-like person summed it up. Pretty low key and meaningful. There were some interesting stories.
We like North Valley Friends, but when we get here, we will shop around...starting with the several UM churches in the area. I will say that the small group Amy and Bren belong to are very good people and very close...especially in age and the ages of their children.
Blessings...
