A taste of Saugatuck

One of the things we will miss when we finally exit Michigan is our excursions to Saugatuck. We have always kicked back there. It is a mixture of Key West, Gig Harbor, Pacific City...and any other coastal community that we have visited. It is especially nice in the summer. First, you can go there and know absolutely no one...except for the wait staff in some of the shops and restaurants...and even that is waning. The kids who we knew from school are getting to be middle age and those that we know look at us funny when we call them by name...usually because we knew their parents and not them.

So we dropped Rose off at the doggie camp and went to Saugatuck for dinner since the refrigerator is empty. We ate at the Mermaid in the open along the river. We recalled the year not too long ago that we sat outside on October 30 and ate supper at 7:00 in the warmth. That does not happen often. But the sun was out today. It was great (the greeter was Christie Bale's oldest daughter.) Then off to the coffee shop and George and Kathy McMahon's daughter waited on us. We took our usual walk to the Gazebo and sat in the sun drinking coffee and watching the boats go in and out.

Following that we drove home with a purpose: packing. We refrained from digging out the suit cases until Rose left because they make her nervous. So some serious packing will take place this evening.

I couldn't pass up one more trip to the computer to look at email and sure enough Jan forwarded some pictures of their newest granddaughter, Dana, who is up to 4# 13oz after arriving at 3/2. She is still tiny, but gaining and home. Good to see her look so healthy.

We leave on the 7:40 out of GR tomorrow morning, through Memphis and on to DFW and the surprise party of the summer. Five days of hot sun in Texas. Yea. Weee haaa.

See all ya'll later since I will not be blogging until next Wednesday....the lap top is staying home.
