Got up really early and ready to light off the big V-10 at 0600 only to have it not start. Called AAA thinking it was the battery since it was 19 degrees outside and we have not run the “Sport” much lately. I tried my little jumper battery, but to no avail. AAA showed up at 7:15 and we determined it was not the battery. “I think the starter is frozen,” the young man said.
So he crawled under the cab and proceeded to hammer on the starter twice…bump, bump. “Oh yea,” I thought. “Can’t be anything that simple.”
“Try it now…you have lots of volts.”
So I cranked it up and away it went. Evidentially, the young man knows his stuff, but beyond that, Sport had been sitting on the bias in our driveway all night, so any moisture…and we have had freeze and thaw stuff…that might be about got in the right spot and at sub 20 degrees it froze. It was a good news, bad news story. Bad news was it wouldn’t start, the good news is it was simple to fix.
Proceeded south without any hesitation and we are now within 300 mi of Memphis. If that is not south…well, you get my drift.
More later.
We decided to press on to Missouri and stayed the night in Sikeston just over Mighty Missisip…we are south. I grilled burgers out in shirt sleeves…far cry from the sub twenty degrees we woke up to this morning.
Aleene drove about an hour of the journey…we did about 500 miles today. Tomorrow (Monday) we are going to play a bit. We will be in Arkansas so we will either stay in Hot Springs or (more likely) Texarkana. We are looking for a spot that is relaxing. We have about 600 miles until we get to Fort Worth so we will do 2-300 miles a day.
A good time is being had by all.
