Blog entry February 28, 2005

We had a great day on the road…mid fifties and lower sixties and mostly sunny. We cruised to Texarkana and found this campground that is a bit suspect, but we decided to stay. I joined this Camp America plan that allows you to stay at half price (membership costs $45) so two days down and saved $30. Anyway, the reason these people sign up for this program is volume. There are a lot of campgrounds along the Interstate system and competition is fierce. So the marginal places sign on and it traps people like us. Don’t get me wrong, the place is ok, but it is not sparkling. You have to remember, as do I, that this is the first of March…and who travels now?

Anyway, we are doing fine. Rose is tired from lack of exercise and reduced sleep. She does not rest when we are on the road. She sleeps well at night, though and unlike other trips she is eating well. She likes the Sport (that’s what we call the MH, as in: Conquest Sport by Gulf Steam.) She is in and out in a flash and she can see very well.

We only traveled 397 miles today. I think we are about 200 from DFW which is where we stay tomorrow. We will be with Aleene’s niece Elaine and her husband. Probably will be staying in their house. They have a plug in for campers at their barn.

I think we got the gas refer problem psyched out. We will see tomorrow. We can use it on electricity, but not gas. I called my guy Lloyd in Holland and he said to try lighting it by hand…the igniter is not working. Thank heaves the hot water heater and the furnace are doing ok…we will see.

TV has been our salvation in the evenings. Last night we watched the Oscars (as much as we could stand) from Carbondale, IL in MO. Tonight we are watching Shreveport, LA .

Our vote for the best roads so far are Illinois. The worst goes to Michigan, thanks to I-196. A close second is Arkansas. They do not have holes like we do, they laid the darn road rough. It reminds me of PA 60 north of New Castle when it was first put in…
That’s about it for now.
