An evening with Kellie Pickler

We ventured off to Chinook Winds casino to see Kellie Pickler yesterday...that's right, the little blond country singer from American Idol fame. This is our 44th anniversary (in a couple of weeks) and we wanted to do something "fun." We have not seen many stars in our career together...Sting, Randy Travis, Mack Davis, 5th Dimension...which goes back a few years. It worked out that this weekend was best for us.

Drove down the coast yesterday...to Depoe Bay to the whale watching center (nice warm elevated building) in the heart of town. The rangers keep track of the sightings on a white board...49, 51, 55, whew... A sighting, of course, is a blow (spout). We saw a couple, but no breaches. There was one of those before we got there. We scanned the ocean with our binoculars...and listened as the ranger-girl invited us back in the summer when they are closer in feeding.

Up to the casino in Lincoln City got our room (tiny) for $57 that proved to have paper thin walls. We ate at the casino in the restaurant that overlooks the Pacific...it was sunset...and it was beautiful.

Kellie was good. The sound system did not allow me to hear much of her spoken words (Aleene interpreted for me,) but the music was rockin', loud and full of energy. She is an entertainer. We came away singing Red High Heels...her signature song which she did as an encore.

We drove home this late morning, back up Highway 18 and though all the parts where trees had been knocked down by the ice and wind a few weeks ago.

We got a call this afternoon from our family we stayed with in Scotland. Pete and Jessie are fine and it was good to hear from them...first hand. We have emailed several times, but it was good to hear their voices and get caught up on all the people we met when there in September.
