A trip to the Redwoods

We spent all day Tuesday in the Redwoods in Northern California. It is something that we have wanted to do since we moved here. We had beautiful weather.

Traveling south along the coast on Monday, we stopped for brunch in Florence, OR. Two couples sat at a table near us and a conversation ensued. Turns out they were from Grayling, MI. They asked what they should see in their trip from Seattle to LA. We said we were stopping in Brookings, OR and then to Crescent City, where the trees are located. That night, we were eating in a restaurant and lo, there they were again; and why not? We were staying right on the ocean and sought out a seafood dinner.

We rode a gondola up to the top of a mountain to see the view from there...spectacular. The redwoods are something. I really do not like pictures of people standing at the bottom of a monument, but the picture of Aleene is for perspective. This tree was 18 feet in diameter and was likely 1500 years old.

Somehow, Paul Bunyan and Babe made it to California from Minnesota. Amazing. Just had to throw that one in. Babe is definitely a guy.

There are more pictures on flicker...I took a ton, but did not upload all of them. The ocean scenes were vistas where we stopped to look for whales...none seen this trip.

We crossed the mountains to Grants Pass and stayed there Tuesday. We were back home by noon Wednesday....no rain until Eugene.
