I regularly read the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. I was reading a column about the recent house cleaning the mayor of Pittsburgh did with his staff. In the column the writer used the phrase in quotations "redd up." I have never lived anywhere else in this country where anyone knew what this phrase means...unless they are from PA, more specifically, Western PA. (I vaguely remember blogging on this before...)
My mother used to implore me to redd things up, so it must me be ok to use. Mom was a stickler for accurate use of language. So, if you want to expand your lexicon...add redd up to your choice of words.
