Unremarkable anniversary

January 23 came and went in 2006 without any notariety. The title of today's blog were words right out of the bride's mouth...this morning (January 24) after I asked her (jokingly) how she would remember #41. We spent most of the day on I-10 in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana (we went north on I-49 for 100 miles, too.) All told we logged 514 miles. In the process I lost a $50 hub cap on the right rear when (I presume) we hit a bump on a bridge over one of the many bayous on I-10 in Louisiana. Oh well, that is the first in two years, and while it looks ugly I will not replace it until we get to Oregon...finally.

We stayed January 23 in Natchatocus, LA at a little (30 spots) RV park just off I-49. Cold, damp, but level and moderately quiet...and did I add cheap? This was the leas expensive place we have stayed in two years ($15 + tax)...most go for $25-$30 per night. Aleene fixed pork barbecue from the roast she did (and froze) on January 1. She had coleslaw mix with us and fixed that for a Pittsburgh style pork sandwich...sorry, no french fries.

This morning we started by 8:00 and after 465 miles we pulled into Abeline, TX at a KOA...ah yes, did I say it has WiFi? We have to make almost 600 miles tomorrow, so we will be on the road by seven CST and with the help of a time change be somewhere in NM by 6:00 MST. That will be a twelve hour day. But remember, we take an hour for lunch and today I slept for half an hour (so did Rose.) The sun was out all day and while we are having trouble passing up gas stations (getting just 7.5 mpg dragging the Jeep along) we maintain about 65 mph.

For supper we ordered out at a steak house down the road that delivers. We got the His and Her package of ribeye steaks (12 oz and 9 oz, thus His and Hers). So that was our Anniversary dinner a day late, but we enjoyed it just the same mainly since not only was it tastey and delivered to the camp site...it came with chocolate cake and cheese cake...

Rose is still doing well. She worked her butt off trying to keep up with Shawn and Micki's border collies in a game of Kriz (her word for frisbee.) She is an old lady. She is a game dog. I am sure she could have held her own four years ago when she was their age. She tried to compete and they were gentlemen, and it was fun to watch. But she is stiff today, so I gave her a second ibuprophin today to help her get in and out of the MH. I actually had to pull out the bottom step for her every time regardless of what type of surface we were on...she was hurting.

Two more days and we are in Phoenix...where we will meet up with Jan and Gary and Wes and Marilyn (for some of the time) and then head for Newberg.

More later....from the road.
