Post Holiday Report

I couldn’t let fun interfere with blogging; it is now time to catch up. New Year’s eve we spent dancing the night away at the clubhouse here at Tanglewood. There must have been at least 300 people in the big auditorium eating and dancing. Aleene was approached by the dance committee chairperson, presumably, to recruit her for the next dance event. She had noticed our frequency and energy on the dance floor. Well, we paid for that the next day. Whew. We were worn out. But we did go to church Sunday morning.

The weather has been beautiful so we ventured west to Ft. Meyers with Dana and Willie yesterday. We took Miss Dog along since we were planning to be gone about 12 hours. The drive from Sebring to the coast is about 100 miles and very rural for 90% percent of the way. Then, wham, you are on I-75 with the hoards of cars, then US-41 and all its lights…but really an easy trip. We ate lunch at Don and Bobbie’s and blocked Rose in the kitchen and lanai with chairs and took off to Tin City in Naples. Aleene and I have been there twice before, once with D & B about four years ago and with the Penn State crew in 2004. There is always a lot to see…and it was not busy on January 2.

We walked the pier at Naples and found a crowded beach there. People were swimming so the water must not have been too cold…then back to Ft. Meyers to check on Rose. What a dog. She could have easily jumped or for that matter pushed her way out of her makeshift pen, but there she was wagging her tail at us. I think she enjoyed the view since their condo is on the fourth floor…it overlooks a golf course.

We loaded the old girl in the Jeep and headed north for supper at a favorite spot of Don & Bobbie. By seven thirty we were ready to head back to Sebring. Rose stayed in the back of the Jeep while we ate our meal…it was dark and had cooled off enough for her to stay in. She did a good job…although she does not drink enough to make up for all the panting she does when we ride.

Today is housekeeping day. That means we wash clothes, clean, and shop for groceries. We plan to get together with Big Brothers this weekend, but not sure who is going where at this point. Aleene and I would like to pull off one more side trip as our time here at Sebring winds down (we leave January 20), but we are not sure where that might be…most likely St. Augustine. We thought about Key West, but that is eight hours away and while folks are trying to get us to go to Disney…we did that twenty two years ago and that was enough. We’ll see.

Peace…
