Randy and Susan Hansen

We had dinner with Randy and Susan Friday evening in Grand Haven. They are well and talking about what might be ahead for them. Hanging out with retirees, the topic always comes up...how much longer they/we/you have to work. Susan said they were (about) 57 so they have a while. Their daughters, Sarai and Hillary are both working at their respective jobs in Chicago. Sarai has had some health/eye issues recently, but it does not seem to be serious although a tumor was suspected at one point. She is working with mentally disturbed teens. Hillary is at Field Museum and has been assigned a major display on dinasours. It will take two years to develop. She continues to date her beau. One of Fred's relatives died over Christmas. Susan said Hillary did well supporting him and floating in and out of the cultural differences of the families. They were rightfully proud. We talked for three hours. Of course, we talked about our kids, grand kids, etc. Both Jeff and Amy give us lots to report on.

Randy expects to be back at Central UM at Muskegon. Susan is still in her social services agency which is affiliated with the UM churches in GR. Aleene talked about Estelli and I pontificated about conflict and stuff.

Good to see our friends. They came to Fennville in 1992...wow...thirteen years. Randy added so much to my understanding and thinking about worship and spiritual things during his tenure here. We talked about my interest in The Society of Friends. He taught Amy and me how to meditate...or as he had to call it...contemplative prayer...so no one would think this was some kind of voodoo. Quakers are big into thatmeditation of course.

We will probably not see them again until September...that is how our lives go.
