Amy posted a new entry about the last hours in Korea and the trip home. I had not heard any of that so it was interesting to hear a first hand account of those moments.
Since I have been back from SD I have been trying to stay on schedule. Class Wednesday, a seminar Thursday and a meeting today with golf in the afternoon. Don't laugh. Golf is important when it is your only connection with some folks. I have been inviting some H&C people and HH people in to golf and catch up. This is my farewell tour, so to speak, in the event we sell the condo and really do move west. So keeping up with friends is important.
One of my students works for a company with a subsidiary in Budapest, Hungry. He missed the first meeting of class because he was there and he called me to say he was leaving Monday for another week's visit and would miss the second of six classes...that is tough. He wanted to know if I would give him some extra work to keep from being marked down in class. I hate that. This is not a correspondence course I teach and I think that my giving extra work is punative and not necessarily constructive. I wrote him a brief email and asked if he could eek out some Organizational Behvior (the class title) value in the trip. He wrote back a very detailed outline of the situation there, which was organizational in nature and said he would be willing to write it up in 5-7 pages if I would accept it. Who could say no to that? So he travels all the way to eastern Europe to do reseach on a real, live topic. Cool.
One of my golf friends is a young woman who lost her husband in a tragic auto accident last Labor Day. She is healing quite well and things are good with her. What an ordeal to have to go through at such a tender age. She is starting all over again; new job, planning on moving (if she can get rid of the carpenter ants) and starting some new relationships. It was fun to see her glow back. The first time I talked to her in January she was still very emotional. Yep, it is good to see her coming back. We didn't keep score, thank goodness. She is a good golfer, but I did get on the green six out of nine holes on the first shot (didn't putt well) and ended up with two pars. That is good for me, but I lost three or four balls.
Rose and I are thinking about the weekend...it will be lonely...but Thursday is coming; the day I leave for PDX.
