Wednesday was a watershed day here in Arizona. We began to make plans for moving out on Friday by making reservations in the Sand Diego area…El Cajon for the weekend. Our plan is to try to make contact with Carol Yuiska, Aleene’s college friend, and then to see if we can get to the Midway Memorial…sister ship of the FDR. I really want to walk the decks of that ship…it is almost scary that I might know my way around. No matter what we do, we are staying three nights and it is a resort, so this will be like weekend camping. They have a Budget car rental close by so we are hopeful of getting a car to do some exploring there too.
The other watershed was Rose wearing out her welcome. She has been anxious ever since we got here…well today while we were gone, she chewed the molding at the door of the room we were keeping her in. Separation anxiety, I guess, but what a way to say thank you to you host and hostess in a new house? How embarrassing. So we will have to watch closer or one of us stay here until we leave Friday morning.
Jan and Aleene went shopping this morning while Gary and I rode bikes. It is so flat here that there is no problem peddling eight or ten miles. We went to Litchfield for coffee, memories of the many excursions to Saugatuck and Uncommon Grounds over the years, and then to the pool (that’s when the Rose Dawg did her thing.) Tonight it was out for Mexican fare and the end to a very beautiful day in the desert. It must have been a July-like day here…I think it hit 85.
Tomorrow we have some odds and ends to do relative to getting underway again. There is always the pool and walking about.
We are still without the gas side of the refer. Tried to get the unit into the shop, but they were booked through the end of March…no openings, etc. We can manage, but it is cumbersome going down the road. We will have to run the generator periodically to keep the reefer cool…the electric side works well, so as long as we are plugged in or have the generator on we are ok. One thing, it keeps the usage of Propane down…just the heater and the water heater. I still haven’t given up on it. We struggled with it all last summer not starting on a timely basis, but in each case it worked. It may still light off. We will see.
That’s about it for now….

I am really enjoying reading your posts about your trip. I am so happy your having a good time. your doing exactly what my parents had talked about doing when they retired. I also envy your sunburn, as I look outside at the frost and the 17 degrees on the themometer. Brrr. Thanks for sharing your adventure!!
