More weather observations

One of the intrigues of the NW is its weather...and I have commented about it in the past. Hang on. Here is one more post on weather.

We have had rain each day for the past week. That is not to say we are constantly wet. Yesterday, I mowed the grass, and it was dry. By afternoon, it was just too wet to walk, but by after supper, Aleene and I took the boys and Frodo for a walk and Tru was able to skateboard in the church parking lot near by. This morning it is wet outside. Pappy is not going to walk this morning.

Grammy stayed with the boys last night while Mom and Dad took off for an overnight. This is the first time they have been able to do this since we got here in February. So, Gram slept on the couch and I came home. She had a good night except for Frodo barking once, she reports. I have to take Tru to school. This is the wrap up to his preschool. They had graduation the other night and that was sweet with all those 4/5 year olds with their mortarboards made of white tag board.

The reason I wrote this weather thing is that McMinnville set a rainfall record the other day. They had .67 inches in 24 hours. That's right midwesterners.... 2/3 of an inch in a day. A record. I asked one of my new friends, a Chacago area resident, what is the deal? He confirmed my suspicions...the rain is frequent and light...misty at times. We talked about it at men's prayer breakfast yesterday. NW folk...especially the weather men...if they got 1 or 2 inches in an hour like we are used to in May and June. Oh well, that is the reason anything grows here.

We drove to Salem the other day to shop at Old Navy, which is 25 miles south of us, and on the way we passed acres and acres of Hops. The natives say that is nothing compared to what it used to be. Hops grow on vines suspended on wires 20 feet up in the air. You cannot mistake that crop. They also grow grass for seed here. So you see fields of bent grass, orchard grass and others which I have not looked closely at, going to seed. The farmer in me says that grass is way past cutting...and it is. They don't cut it, the combine it.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend.
